As it worked with a growing number of individuals and groups through the social enterprise program, the Foundation realized that the most successful groups included at least one member who had a level of expertise in the chosen area of service.

Furthermore, one of the most effective ways for the groups to really contribute to the development of their communities was clearly for them to share their new-found knowledge and expertise with an ever-widening group of friends and neighbors. In this way they not only bettered their own lives, they helped advanced the culture of science in their communities and empowered even more people to contribute to the development of the area.

However, it was impossible for the Foundation to support all the various endeavors that arose from the social enterprise training. The solution was to focus on a limited number of specializations for which there was wide interest, and to develop systematic materials that combined the basic concepts of social enterprise with more specialized scientific and technical knowledge in the specialized field. So far, two specializations have been developed more extensively

1. Environmental Action Program
The Environmental Action Program (EAP) focuses on sustainable development. There are two sets of material: one for rural populations and one for educators. This program also includes a special training for rural leaders to help rural leaders support the program effectively.

2. Enhancing the Learning Environment Program
The Enhancing the Learning Environment Program helps educators acquire the skills and attitudes necessary to successfully apply the principles of participation and cooperation in the classroom environment. Over time, participation and cooperation are extended to the working of the school as a whole and to its interaction with parents and the wider community.
