The Environmental Action Program for Rural Women
The Badi Foundation is a learning organization with a flexible and systematic approach. The process of planning, action and reflection is a key feature of both course development and project implementation. In this way, we learn from experience and ensure the project's growth as a partner in sustainable community development.
Development Chart for The EAP for Rural Women
1996-2000 Drafted the Social Enterprise course materials and tested them with small groups of interested individuals. Widespread interest in environmental issues suggests the need to develop specialized materials focused on sustainable development.
2000 Drafted the Environmental Action Program (EAP) materials and tested them in collaboration with the All China Women's Federation. Rrural women in Shaanxi Province and urban educators were chosen as the initial target populations.
2001 Continued revision and testing of EAP materials, using them with with large groups of participants.
2002 Drafted a handbook to help participants share insights from what they learned from the course in a systematic way. Drafted and began testing materials to train those wanting to serve as EAP facilitators. Drafted a course for rural leaders to help them acquire the attitudes and skills needed to support the program more effectively. Drafted and began testing Level 2 EAP materials.
2003 On-going training of facilitators. Identify and test additional relevant components to expand the program. Continue testing and developing the rural leader's course and the Level 2 EAP materials.
Highlights in 2002
Shaanxi:
24 participants from the Environmental Action Program (EAP) trainings conducted in 2001 were invited to attend the first Facilitators training.
120 participants from 40 villages participated in two EAP trainings.
42 students from 12 universities, 5 teachers and 12 community volunteers attended the EAP trainings.
Gansu:
41 local leaders from Pingliang & Qingyang Districts attended the first training program for Leaders.
60 participants from Pingliang District attended an EAP training.
Ten graduate and undergraduate students and one teacher at the Gansu Agricultural University studied the Level 1 EAP materials and reviewed course materials newly developed for the Level 2 EAP.
Yunnan:
56 participants including 32 from minority groups (Yi, Miao, Bai Chuang and Hani) attended a Level 1 EAP training.
Program Development
Increased capacity to train local facilitators, through development of a facilitator training course.
Initial testing of a study group format for the course which will allow more people to participate in the courses while lowering the costs for training.
