In 2002, we reached a new level of understanding and trust with our long-term partner, Women's Federation of Shaanxi Province. The enthusiasm, support, and commitment for long-term collaboration demonstrated by the Women's Federation helped the project gain greater visibility in the communities where it had been launched. As a result of the changes demonstrated by the women participants from Northern Shaanxi Province, the local government of Suide County in the province approached the Foundation to request a project for the county.
In Gansu Province in 2002, we welcomed two new collaborators to the Environmental Action Program: the Gansu Foreign Aids Poverty Allevation Project Management Center and the Gansu Agricultural University. The Gansu Agricultural University will continue to provide technical expertise to participants in the Environmental Action Program to help them implement the projects they have chosen, as well as to provide assistance in developing training materials for various sustainable production systems. We also continued to work with the Women's Federation of Gansu Province, through whose collaboration we began to work with local leaders as well as with rural women.
In Yunnan Province, collaboration with the Women's Federation of Yunnan and its branch at Lincang District enabled us to reach out to the minority community in Fengqing County.
Funding
For the operation of the office and the development of its program, the Badi Foundation depends largely on the generosity of funding partners. For the year 2002, the Foundation received grants amounting to USD120,000 from the Two Wings Foundation, the Office of Social and Economic Development in Haifa, the World Community Foundation, and the Royal Netherlands Embassy, Beijing.
