China Program Review 2002

Exchange and Consultancy Program

This year, the Badi Foundation continued exchanges with government and non-governmental agencies and like-minded institutions in China that are interested in sustainable development, education and psychology. Highlights of the exchange program include:

Marital Therapy Workshops with Medical
Faculty of Beijing University.

1) Beijing Women's College where Drs Bijan and Agnes Ghaznavi, psychologists from Switzerland with more than 30 years of clinical experience, delivered a seminar to a group of 45 kindergarten headmasters, teachers and undergraduate students on the subject of "Children Learning Deficiency." The seminars received positive feedback from participants.

2) China Environment and Sustainable Development Reference and Research Center where the Badi Foundation exchanged views with other participants and attended three seminars related to sustainable development.

Badi Foundation consultants continued to provide their services to various organizations as time allowed, and when the necessary human resources were available. Some consultancies included:

3) UNDP Staff Development Consultancy. The Foundation continued a consultancy with the UNDP China Country office to support their staff development program. This consultancy began in 2001. The second phase of the project ended in March 2002 whilst the third, 4-month phase, began in October 2002.

4) Marital Therapy Workshops with Medical Faculty of Beijing University. Drs Bijan and Agnes Ghaznavi conducted their training workshop for 50 psychologists and counselors from 16 provinces in China. Their practical approaches were well received and the follow-up on actual cases showed positive results. It is expected that they will continue working with the University on various related courses.

Internship Program

In an effort to develop more human resources and utilize the services of volunteers effectively, the Badi Foundation has begun to design an internship program. In 2002, the Foundation was able to accept two interns - Ms Leyla Fryback from Macau who volunteered her time on project documentation for the Environmental Action Program, and Ms Nava Bastani from the United States who worked on an audio-visual presentation of the same program. The Badi Foundation also employs the services of many Chinese national volunteers to further the work in China in various ways. It is expected that in 2003, the internship program will be expanded further.
