Badi Foundation Participates in Discussion about Poverty Alleviation at the Invitation of China International Publishing Group

On March 7th, 2016, Badi Foundation’s Chief Representative Ms. Shareen Farhad was interviewed by the NPC &CPPCC (National People’s Congress & Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference) session under China International Publishing Group, about issues related to China’s poverty alleviation and development.

Poverty alleviation has always been critical in China’s state policies. The government sets a goal to lift 10,000,000 people out of poverty by 2020 through targeted measures. During the NPC &CPPCC this year, China International Publishing Group opened up the new column on their website specially dedicated to issues of wide concern such as poverty alleviation, education, environment and invited relevant experts to share their thoughts.

Ms. Farhad has been devoted to contributing to poverty alleviation and development in China since she joined Badi Foundation in 2007. During the interview, she shared Badi’s experiences with capacity building programs in almost 200 communities covering 13 provinces during the last 20 years. Collaborating with China Poverty Alleviation and Development Center under the Poverty Alleviation Office of the State Council, Badi has always prioritized the empowerment of local populations to be active participants in the development of their communities. It is through such a process that true development, which balances the material and the cultural, can take root. Badi Foundation is committed to generating learning to contribute to this process. During the interview, Ms. Farhad also shared her thoughts on topics such as the “left-behind” children and the Overseas NGO Management Law.
